Kano is the latest familiar face to join the Mortal Kombat 11 roster, joining the likes of Sonya Blade, Scorpion, Raiden, Baraka, Sub Zero, Skarlet, and Shao Kahn as returning fighters from past games. Presumably yesterday’s Kombat Kast was to feature new gameplay of Kano and a full reveal but that will have to wait until next week.
For all intents and purposes, Kano looks like the Kano that Mortal Kombat fans have come to expect. He has the metallic faceplate and cybernetic eye, as well as a decent sized knife for close quarters damage. The tattoo on his arm could be a hint at his Black Dragon crime syndicate, but that’s pure speculation at this point.
How Kano figures into the larger Mortal Kombat 11 story is likely being saved for even later than the Kombat Kast. At this point, NetherRealm is only willing to tease that the story features time jumps and will encompass the past, present, and future of the Mortal Kombat series.
Given that Sonya Blade and now Kano are in the game, though, there is sure to be speculation that Jax Briggs is also included. Both Sonja and Jax are typically not far behind when Kano is involved, and fan interest in Jax returning has spiked after Terry Crews expressed interest in playing the character.
For those fans that are keeping count, Kano’s reveal brings the current Mortal Kombat 11 roster up 8 fighters, with Shao Kahn available as a pre-order bonus. While Mortal Kombat X tried to introduce a lot of new faces, it seems like MK11 is favoring a lot of returners. Still, there are likely a lot more reveals ahead, so the balance could shift back by the time the game releases in April.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23, 2019 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
