The popular fighting game may have just been snubbed by EVO 2020, but support for the game remains strong. Not only is there a steady drip of DLC in the form of new characters, but the Towers of Time game mode is frequently updated with new events. In MK 11 the Towers of Time is a game mode that features challenges to earn profile experience, level up gear, earn rewards, and accumulate in-game currency.

The Valentine’s Day massacre taking place over the next week is one such event. A limited time Premier Tower in the Towers of Time mode called “Be Mine” will be available from February 13th through to the 17th for players to test their might. The tower includes some fun modifiers including Mileena’s Teddy Bear, Cupid’s Arrows, and Kandy Hearts. Completing the tower also unlocks three new brutalities for Kano, Kitana, and Jax.
Kano’s new brutality feels like a slightly missed opportunity, as a classic heart rip would have been fitting for the Valentine’s Day event, but a high-powered laser to the gut will have to suffice. On the other side of things, Jax reintroduces the big boot from Mortal Kombat 3 and it is outstanding. Somehow this brutality had already leaked, leaving only the question of when players would be able to execute the classic stomp. That time is now, as the “Be Mine” tower is all that stands between players and the satisfaction of crushing their opponent with an absurdly large boot.
Adding little events like this, complete with unlockables that strike that nostalgic chord, are a great way to keep a player base excited about a game. This looks like it might be the last bit of content players see until Spawn enters the fray next month as the last character in the Kombat Pack DLC.
After Spawn, plans for more DLC are anyone’s guess. If support remains high for the game on the player end, more content could make its way to the game soon enough. For now, boot stomping with Jax will have to tide players over.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
