For the uninitiated, Scorpion’s Hell Port attack was extremely difficult to block, and it was easy, especially for high level players, to transition from it into ridiculous combos. However, the latest Mortal Kombat 11 patch makes a key change to Hell Port that will force Scorpion mains to change the way they approach the game. Namely, Hell Port is now a high attack instead of a mid attack.

When Hell Port was a mid attack, it meant players had to block it at the exact right time to avoid taking damage. But by changing it from a mid to a high attack, Scorpion’s Hell Port can now be avoided simply by ducking. It can also be effectively countered now by ducking and following up with an uppercut, which is sure to be the strategy for many Mortal Kombat 11 players moving forward when they encounter a Scorpion player using Hell Port.

As mentioned previously, the Scorpion nerf that has come as part of the latest Mortal Kombat 11 update has seen mixed reactions. There are those who feel as though it make Scorpion’s Hell Port too easy to dodge and counter, and others who feel like the nerf makes Scorpion a more balanced character overall.

It will be interesting to see if this Scorpion nerf has an imapct on Mortal Kombat 11 tier lists. Up to this point, Scorpion has typically been ranked pretty high on tier lists, and has generally been considered one of the strongest characters in the game. This change to Hell Port could have a significant impact on his standing with the Mortal Kombat 11 community. Likewise, buffs that other characters got as part of the latest Mortal Kombat 11 patch could see them rise through the ranks and be used more on a competitive level.

Mortal Kombat 11 Patch 1.07 is far from the last patch that will be released for the game, and there are sure to be many more balance changes in the future. It’s possible NetherRealm will even reverse its decision to nerf Scorpion’s Hell Port, but that will likely depend on input from the community.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
