Now, the series as a whole isn’t new to controversies and technical glitches circling around its titles over its long history as one of the top fighting franchises. After all, the entire ESRB had to be established just to account for the unprecedented amount of violence the series introduced to gaming, but nothing has stoked fan outrage for the series faster than good old fashion bugs.

The videos show an issue with hitboxes (the area around a character model that determines contact) not engaging properly, allowing players to strike each other outside of the regular limits. From what is shown in the videos themselves, it would seem that the issue mostly happens when a character jumps and the other player strikes with an attack that triggers an animation where that character had left the ground from. While this does make this a fairly limited issue, in this case not showing up for the majority of casual Mortal Kombat 11 players, these kinds of bugs can be disastrous in competitive play.

Mortal Kombat has always had a strong presence in gaming tournaments and is a staple for esports, with each new game quickly finding itself quickly pieced over by pro players looking to get whatever edge they can. Unfortunately, when glitches have shown up in the Mortal Kombat pro communities, it can cause an uproar about what is considered an exploit and what is considered allowed in official contests. In the past, bugs have always been a hindrance on a game’s ability to perform at the professional level.

All-in-all, this glitch isn’t likely to plague the average player more than a few times in there own personal experience with the game. The issue hasn’t exactly been widely reported over the past five months since the games release after all. Although, it is a fun party trick for anyone looking to rattle someone or show off the limits of breaking the game.

However, it can be showing that a series as tried and true as Mortal Kombat still hasn’t managed to work out all of the kinks in their systems, even when they’re still working with the same engine as previous titles. So that’s up to the fans to decide: Is this a game breaking glitch, or just an amusing hiccup to be looked over?
