Jax - Mehcad Brooks

Mehcad Brooks will play Jax.

Brooks has an up-and-coming acting career. He has done most of his work so far on television. Fans of the CW’s DC Universe would probably best know the actor as James Olsen on Supergirl. He has also had parts in Desperate Housewives, Necessary Roughness, and The Game.

Brooks seems excited for the role. When announced as Jax, Brooks tweeted “Honored. Humbled. Ready.” As of this post, Brooks still has the Tweet pinned on his timeline.

Kano - Josh Lawson

Josh Lawson will play Kano.

Lawson has done some TV work, including a reoccurring role on Superstore and a leading role on House of Lies. As far as film work goes, folks might know him from Anchorman 2.

Josh Lawson has mostly done comedy work in the past, which hints that Kano will probably have a comic element to him in the film.

Liu Kang - Ludi Lin

Ludi Lin will play Liu Kang.

Lin has some big film roles on his resume, some of which required him to have some fighting chops. Most notably and most recently, Ludi Lin starred as Zack, the Black Ranger in the Power Rangers reboot film. Lin also had a part in Aquaman, which means he has worked with producer James Wan before.

Most recently, Lin appeared in an episode of popular anthology show Black Mirror.

Mileena - Sisi Stringer

Sisi Stringer will play Mileena.

Most people probably have not heard that name before. Stringer, an Australian actress, hasn’t done any major acting work for film or TV yet. It’s wild to see a newcomer take on such a big role, but if the filmmakers see potential in the actress then maybe she’ll become the next big female action star.

Raiden - Tadanobu Asano

Tadanobu Asano will play Raiden.

Mark Asano down as another actor with some fighting chops. The actor has a long resume, which includes a lot of Japanese films. American audiences would mast likely know the actor as a somewhat notable reoccurring character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He features in all three Thor films as Hogun the Grim, one of the three warriors who fights by Thor’s side on Asgard.

Scorpion - Hiroyuki Sanada

Hiroyuki Sanada will play Scorpion.

Sanada probably stands out as the most notable actor on this list. He has appeared in a ton of films and television shows, including many Samurai films. He often gets cast to show off his incredible skills as an on-screen fighter, which makes him a perfect fit for Mortal Kombat.

Most recently, he appeared in Avengers: Endgame in an incredible sword fight on the streets of Tokyo. He also had a major role in the second season of HBOs Westworld. He also had a role in the Last Samurai.

He has had a prolific career in Japanese film, sometimes with numerous credits per year, going all the way back to 1965. It should excite Mortal Kombat fans to see him in such a large role.

Shang Tsung - Chin Han

Chin Han will play Shang Tsung.

Han has most notably appeared in the recent live-action film version of Ghost in the Shell as Togusa. Beyond that, he has had some roles in other big films and some reoccurring spots on TV shows. Fans of Marco Polo will know him as Jia Sidao on the show.

Han also marks the second name on the list to feature in the DC Universe. He had a reoccurring role on the CW’s Arrow as well as a part in the blockbuster Batman film The Dark Knight.

Sonya Blade - Jessica McNamee

Jessica McNamee will play Sonya Blade

McNamee also comes from Australia, but she has quite a few more film credits than Stringer. She recently had a role in the Jason Statham-starring giant shark movie The Meg, which was about a killer predator called the Megalodon.

Other than that, she had a part in the film Battle of the Sexes as well as a recurring role on the television show Sirens.

Sub-Zero - Joe Taslim

Joe Taslim will play Sub-Zero.

Taslim has had a short career so far, but it does feature some notable roles. He appeared in the highly-rated action film The Raid: Redemption. He also appeared in Start Trek Beyond and Fast & Furious 6.

Like others on the list, he has a history of action-oriented roles, which should make him a great fighter in the Mortal Kombat film.

Mortal Kombat film is scheduled to release on March 5, 2021.
