Combining gameplay with motion comic artistry, the trailer reveals a story that Mortal Kombat veterans would already be familiar with. Scorpion, the once human ninja assassin, is powered by a thirst for vengeance. He seeks to destroy Sub-Zero, who he holds responsible for the death of his family and clan. His deadly rivalry with Sub-Zero, another one of the most popular characters in the series, will be a featured story element in the new game.

Few gamers who may not be familiar with the original backstories of Mortal Kombat characters may find the information educational. Leading up to the release of the game, we can assume that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios will release more character-centric trailers. Building the buzz and revealing the new old status quo would be a smart move.

The Mortal Kombat franchise seems to be in a state of renewal, what with the new game and even a new short live-action film used to pitch a possible re-imagined Mortal Kombat film. In 2011, many gamers will be welcoming the return of the blood and violence of the franchise.

Mortal Kombat will be released in 2011 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
